We are getting down to the wire with barely 9 days remaining and we have quite a mountain to climb. We still need $1,293, which is more than half of our desired goal. We really need to come together in order to make this video a reality!

If you have ever had a far out dream that seemed unattainable or enjoyed a majestic view, hike, etc in a National Park we urge you to become an active member of our project, donate and spread the word as far as the eyes can see. DEAR FRIENDS,

Over the last few months, we have been preparing a mystical music video to complement the single National Parks from our new self-titled album. This will not be your average music video. There will be neon bodies, smoke bombs, sparkly mushrooms, mountains, singing waterfalls, starry eyes, and things you can only imagine... for the time being, at least. We are taking it to the next level. We want this video to be phenomenal for you. The only things standing in our way are our bank accounts. So we're asking you, our lovely friends, to help support us in bringing a little happiness to the world.

It will cost us $2,500 to make this baby. $2,500 may seem like a lot. It seems like a lot to us. But when you take into consideration that we will have to rent camera/lighting equipment and a generator + get a cast and crew of nearly 30 ppl to the mountains + take care of them for a couple of days and purchase props it's really a miniscule budget. It doesn't even begin to cover the time and effort that our producer and director/editor are putting into this pro bono. We would gladly fund this project ourselves but our monies were depleted after paying for the recording of our new album, photography and plane tickets to the UK for ATP.

Why make the video?
Because we want to bring the beauty of the song to life and showcase the place where we grew up. We'd love to contribute a bit of joy to this world that’s so often full of doom and gloom and we think this video would be a great vehicle to do so.

buongiorno!

we are in faenza, italia right now.
we just had yummy cappuccini and they are preparing food for us right now.

italia has the best food ever, no question, so we are excited.

tour so far has been very good.
our favorite shows were in poland.
people are super enthusiastic about music there.

last night we played in salzburg, austria and it is one of the most beautiful cities i have ever seen.

before the show we had Glühwein.
it is usually prepared from red wine, heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods, cloves, citrus and sugar.

while we were here helicopters were flying around above us because tom cruise and cameron diaz are filming a movie in salzburg.

just wanted to let you know that we made it to europe and we are OKAY! (sort of)

last night at our first show in Berlin, Devin plugged our stuff in and it exploded.
not really, but it didn't work and lots of smelly smoke filled the suitcase.
we borrowed some european 9V adapters and used those instead of our converter.
we couldn't use our mixer or delay pedal cause they blew up.
but we got new ones and our very own adapters so we are set.

that was scary...

i can't post any pictures because the places we have been so far don't have wifi.
right now i am typing on a computer that looks as though it was hit by a bomb when it was made in 1992.

we are in wroclaw, poland right now. it's pretty neat/scary and people don't speak much english.
we had some sort of traditional meal tonight prepared by the venue and it was... not like anything we had ever eaten before.

last night i rode a motorcycle (that wasn't real) and the dj played all american songs after our set (think: beach boys, born in the usa, kids in america... etc). are those 2 things worth going broke in europe?

if you follow us on twitter or look at our tumblr... you may have seen our post about finding saddam in an ironing board cupboard at an apartment we were looking at.
he looked something like this:

when we visited dublin on our uk tour, future islands had a really good time. such a good time that we missed our ferry the next morning. i drove us to a neighboring town so that we could catch another ferry. we had some time to kill so devin and i walked around while they slept in the car. when we got back to the car, we found this guy making a lot of noise RIGHT by them. bwahahahaha.

we played a show in kansas city wednesday night at pistol social club.
here is a video of one of the cats that lives there, flora.
she is very gentle and dainty.

both of our mics broke. the electribe shut off which sent our sampler into a frenzy and everything stopped working all together.
we thought the show was over, but all of the kids at the show got on the floor and started doing pushups to try and summon enough energy to get our stuff to work... and they did!
well, the mics didn't, but the sampler and the electribe came back to life after about 5 minutes.

the next day, as we were driving to denver we got stuck in a bad storm.
then a tornado warning alert came on the radio as we were passed by a tornado intercept vehicle and a team of trucks.
the tornado intercept vehicle was the craziest thing i have ever seen.
i couldn't get a good picture, but you can see a pic of a similar one here
it was scary.

i've been slacking on taking pictures lately.
first because my camera got soaked and now because the batteries are dead.
i bought new ones today.

here's a verbal, succint summary of what's been going on.
providence- awesome.
boston- terrible
portsmouth- cold and rainy, but OK
montreal- cancelled
toronto- awesome. we played in a united steelworkers of america. the room had dividers and different bands played in different rooms. with each wall that opened the room got bigger. we love toronto.
detroit- cool space
chicago- pretty ok
milwaukee- surprisingly FUN.

here are two videos from our drive through canada.
one is really foggy because of my wet camera.
the other is to show how pretty it really was.

also, when we crossed the border from canada to michigan we had to go inside and be searched.
inside there was a poster hanging with a parrot on it.
above the parrot it said "don't smuggle me. i could be sick"
it is, by far, the best thing i've seen on tour.

been slacking at the blog lately :S

we've been really busy= devin finishing up school, moving to baltimore, practicing for tour, making tee shirts, blahblahblah.
devin graduates from unca on may 16th.

last night i dreamed that ear pwr went to my middle school to perform for my old band instructor's current class.
i'm sure he doesn't teach anymore and might not even be alive... he was pretty old.
and SO mean. but i liked him. one time i dyed my hair green and the principle sent me home. later that day, mr. olsen stopped class and said, "i thought you had green hair this morning?" i said "yeah, they made me go home and bleach it out." he got really pissed and said it was "bullshit." it was totally out of character for him to talk about anything other than what we were doing in class. and of course, as an 12 year old, i thought it was really cool that he said "bullshit."

in the dream, we played through this teeny tiny amp that i got with a guitar for christmas one year.
so of course, we sounded bad.
all the kids were pretty disinterested and didn't think that what we were doing was music.
they were bored out of their minds & eventually walked out...peering into our suitcase for a sec before they made their way out the door- kinda like passing a casket at a visitation.
and mr. olsen sat on his chair with his arms crossed and his usual look of disappointment and disgust as we struggled to play through the minature amp.

ug, what does this mean?

*point of interest- devin's dad is a middle school band teacher. but he's really nice :)

I think we saw art lord every time you came to the werehouse and I saw future islands here in asheville a while back. you guys sure put on an amazing show.

Anyways, the reason i am writing this message is to ask you if you wanted to play a show with us and the ZOM ZOMS (Austin TX) in Greensboro on October the 26th. We need another band to play and you would be perfect.
We also have a dj that is going to be spinning all night long.

since sxsw i have been sick as hell.
i thought i was dying the first couple of days, then i thought i was getting better, then i thought i was dying again.
i tried healing myself with natural remedies, but this was one fight my body couldn't handle alone.
today, after coughing up something i am not going to describe, i decided it was time to visit the doctor.

so of course, i was prescribed some strong antibiotics. as the doc began to exit the room, i mentioned that i hadn't slept in 4 days because i can't breathe/ stop coughing at night.
"do you know of a cough syrup that would help with that?" i asked.
the doctor closed the door and looked at me super seriously.
"i do. it is a...narcotic. is that ok?"
i got scared and said.... "y-y-yeah i guess"

when i picked up my prescription, the pharmacist took one look at the bottle of cough syrup and said "oh, this will make you feel a LOT better. yeah, you're gonna feel reaaalll good" i laughed a little, but mostly felt weird and got out of there as fast as i could.

on the way home i started thinking that maybe i had some......."sizzurp"

this suspicion was confirmed when i got home and noticed "this is a GOLD, LIQUID." on the bottle.
"ohhhh. ok. that's what all the fuss was about", i thought. "this is a GOLD, LIQUID."

i guess that explains why it was 60 bucks, too.
